Photographs

The impetus for my creative outlet was my intense reaction to the felling of trees within the neighborhoods of my home and Cité OUA, Lomé, Togo. Given the brutalist architecture of this city, having well-established trees hacked down and removed was quite devastating. However, despite being concerned about the rapid denuding of West Africa, I realized that these reactions were also a metaphorical expression of the grief, frustration, and a sense of powerlessness that is common to the expatriate experience when moving countries.
